Text body:

We are happy to announce that we are now an official partner of CSS Electronics in [region]. CSS Electronics specializes in developing CAN bus data loggers that are simple-to-use, pro specs and interoperable.

The CSS Electronics CAN loggers are split in two series:

The CANedge is a 2xCAN/LIN data logger. It combines ease-of-use with pro specs and powerful configuration options. The timestamped data can be processed in your favorite tools - or via 100% free open source software/APIs. The CANedge1 is ideal for logging data to an SD card, while the CANedge2 also adds WiFi data transfer and over-the-air updates - ideal for remote CAN bus logging and fleet telematics.

The CLX000 lets you log CAN data to an SD card in CSV format - and process it via the free software tools. Further, you can stream data in real-time via USB on your PC for e.g. reverse engineering and diagnostics purposes (e.g. using SavvyCAN).

The CAN loggers are used by 1000+ companies across 80+ countries - incl. top OEMs like Volkswagen, Siemens, Bosch, Liebheer, JCB and Toyota. See also the 40+ case studies for example use cases.

Learn more about the CAN loggers on our website including features and specs. You can of course also contact us to set up a demo.

In this update, we wanted to give you a bit more detail on the new CANedge CAN bus data loggers. As a start, we recommend that you watch the below 3 min intro video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4MWHckbgE4&list=PLpV68vjf4Xo4NT0hXMEp5A9bXqfX9sFQo

The CANedge series comprises the CANedge1 and CANedge2. The loggers are identical, except that the CANedge2 adds WiFi functionality. Below we list some of the key features:

Key features of the CANedge

  • Plug & play: Log data out-the-box. Standalone - no PC required

  • Pro specs: Extractable industrial 8-32 GB SD card. 2xCAN/LIN. CAN FD. Zero data loss. 50 µs RTC resolution. MF4 log file format

  • Compact: 8 x 5 x 2 CM. 100G. Aluminum enclosure.

  • Configurable: Advanced filters. Transmit lists. Triggers. Cyclic logging. Silent mode. Edge compression. Data encryption

  • 100% free software/API: Convert data to e.g. CSV, ASC, TRC. DBC decode & plot

Further, the CANedge2 adds WiFi data transfer functionality. This allows the device to connect to a WiFi access point (incl. 3G/4G) and auto-push log files to your own server.

The data & devices can be easily managed via the free CANcloud tool and you can visualize your parameters via free customizable dashboards.

    Typical use cases

The CANedge1 is ideal for offline logging over longer periods - e.g. as a blackbox CAN logger for OEMs. The CAN data can be used to diagnose rare issues, track field usage - or serve as input for e.g. warranty-related disputes.

The CANedge2 automates the data collection, making it ideal for use cases where frequently offload of data is required. For example, you can use it to automate the data collection from fleets of forklifts, cars, trucks, mining vehicles, ships, machinery etc. The data can be used for R&D, diagnostics, predictive maintenance and more. Further, with over-the-air updates it is easy to manage the devices remotely.

In this update, we’ll provide more detail on the CLX000 by CSS Electronics.

The CLX000 can be used for both logging raw CAN bus data to an SD card - as well as for streaming data in real-time via USB. If you purely need to log data to an SD card, you can also consider the CANedge series.

Below we list some of the key features of the CL2000:

Key features of the CL2000

  • Plug & play: Configure in 2 min. Power via CAN connector. Auto-detect bit-rate

  • Standalone: Log CAN data to 8-32GB SD card for months - no pc needed

  • Timestamp: Date & timestamp your data - vital for post analysis

  • Stream: Easily stream raw & DBC decoded CAN bus data via USB

  • Compact: Fits the palm of your hand (7 x 4 x 2 CM). 50 G

  • Free software: 100% free software tools & integrations (e.g. SavvyCAN/Wireshark)

    Typical use cases

The CLX000 is often used for CAN bus data logging in use cases where the extremely low cost and compactness are vital. Examples include blackbox logging, legal compliance monitoring, rare issue diagnostics and more.

Further, it’s frequently used for CAN bus reverse engineering and CAN diagnostics, where users analyze the SD log files and real-time CAN streams via popular open source tools like SavvyCAN.

Body:

In this update we highlight a case study where Volkswagen used the CANedge2 to log both proprietary CAN and OBD2 data from their cars.

VW required a compact pro specs solution for logging data in the field - and collecting it on an SD card. Further, it was critical to the team that they could auto-push the data to their own self-hosted server - to avoid having their sensitive data end up on 3rd party clouds.

The CANedge2 enabled the team to perform standalone testing with no involvement from the vehicle drivers - helping to streamline their processes and costs significantly:

“The CANedge2 got us up-and-running at a rapid pace with robust config options - and the support was outstanding!“

CANedge1 case study: JCB blackbox logging

https://canlogger1000.csselectronics.com/img/JCB-case-study-CANedge1-blackbox-J1939-logger.svg

Body:

In this update we highlight a case study with JCB using the CANedge1 as a blackbox CAN bus data logger for their heavy duty machinery.

JCB had various use cases for ‘ad hoc’ blackbox logging. For example, in some cases a rare/intermittent issue would occur in a machine - and JCB would install the CANedge1 to log e.g. 4-6 weeks of data to the SD card. Based on an analysis of the data, they would be able to diagnose issues - beyond what the normal diagnostic trouble codes would allow.

The CANedge1 is also useful in ‘dispute handling’ - when e.g. an operator would claim an issue was caused by the machinery. Here, JCB can install the CANedge1 to log data during field usage - and determine whether an issue was related to the machine or operator behavior.

"The CANedge1 really helps us pin-point issues which can't be identified with built-in machine diagnostics - and there's very good and quick support if help is needed!"
